Our Story Begins in Port Jefferson Station
O’Hara & Company CPA was founded in the early ’90s with one goal: to deliver real, relationship-based accounting services to individuals and small businesses. What began as a one-person practice has grown into a trusted, community-rooted firm with a second location in St. James, NY.
We’ve never been interested in cookie-cutter solutions or flashy slogans—just honest, dependable advice delivered by people who care. Today, our firm continues to thrive because of strong client relationships, word-of-mouth referrals, and a team that puts service first.

We’re a small, dedicated team of CPAs, Enrolled Agents, and client service professionals who believe in doing business the right way—personally, patiently, and with pride in our work. Each of us brings deep expertise, strong ethics, and a true passion for helping our clients succeed.

Joseph M. O'Hara, CPA/PFS/CFP
Founder
Joseph M. O’Hara is a New York State Certified Public Accountant, IRS Enrolled Agent, and
Certified Financial Planner. He earned his Master’s degree in Taxation from Northeastern
University and his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Hofstra University.
With more than 25 years of experience, Joseph has developed expertise in business and
personal tax, specializing in tax resolution and IRS representation. He has assisted numerous
clients in navigating complex tax issues and achieving favorable outcomes. Prior to founding
O’Hara & Company in 2009, Joseph worked in both public accounting firms and private
industry, gaining a broad perspective that informs his client-focused approach.
Joseph is dedicated to providing personalized, practical solutions tailored to meet the unique
financial and tax needs of each client.

Nancy Umanzor, EA
Senior Accountant
Nancy Umanzor has been an integral part of O’Hara & Company since 2015. She earned her
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from St. Joseph’s College in May 2020 and went on to
complete her Master’s degree in Accounting with a concentration in Taxation from Southern
New Hampshire University.
In 2023, Nancy became an Enrolled Agent (EA), a federally authorized tax practitioner
empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the Internal
Revenue Service. Her enrollment was officially processed by the IRS in February 2024.
With nearly a decade of experience at the firm, Nancy plays a key leadership role in managing
client services. She oversees all aspects of bookkeeping, prepares complex individual and
corporate tax returns, and now, as an EA, represents clients before both the IRS and New York
State tax authorities. Nancy’s deep knowledge, dedication, and hands-on approach make her a
trusted advisor to clients and a cornerstone of the O’Hara & Company team.

Anthony Chong, EA
Accountant
Anthony Chong joined O’Hara & Company in May 2025 as an Accountant. He holds a Master’s
degree in Business with a focus in Accounting from Touro University Worldwide and is an
Enrolled Agent (EA), authorized to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.
At O’Hara & Company, Anthony oversees monthly payroll tax returns, prepares individual and
corporate tax returns, manages client bookkeeping, and handles payroll and sales tax filings.
With his EA designation, he is qualified to represent clients before both the IRS and state tax
authorities.

Olivia Ruiz
Accounting Assistant | Tax & Bookkeeping Support
Olivia Ruiz joined O’Hara & Company in November 2023 as an Accounting Assistant. She holds
an Associate’s degree in Accounting and is currently pursuing both her Bachelor’s degree in
Accounting and an MBA with a concentration in Accounting at St. Joseph’s University.
At O’Hara & Company, Olivia supports a wide range of client services. She prepares
bookkeeping, assists in the preparation of individual and corporate tax returns, and helps
manage payroll for clients. Olivia plays a key role in the day-to-day support of the accounting
team, contributing to various projects and ensuring timely, accurate client service.

Daniel Calderon
Accounting Assistant | Tax & Bookkeeping Support
Daniel Calderon joined O’Hara & Company in May 2025 as an Accounting Assistant. He is
currently pursuing his Associate’s degree in Accounting at Suffolk County Community College
and is set to graduate in Fall 2025. Following graduation, he plans to continue his education at
St. Joseph’s University to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
As part of the O’Hara & Company team, Daniel assists with preparing client bookkeeping and
supporting various accounting functions. Eager to learn and grow in the field, he is building a
strong foundation in accounting practices while gaining hands-on experience in a professional
setting.

Melissa Ohara
Bookkeeper
Melissa joined O’Hara & Company in 2020. She has completed coursework in accounting and
business, and is certified in both Bookkeeping and QuickBooks. Additionally, Melissa is a
certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, providing expert QuickBooks services to support our clients’
accounting needs.

June Smillie
Administrative Assistant
June joined O’Hara & Company in September 2023 as an Administrative Assistant. She is
responsible for managing the daily administrative functions of the office, including scheduling
appointments, organizing client records, handling communications, and supporting the
accounting team.
With a strong background in office administration and customer service, June plays a key role
in ensuring the office runs efficiently and that clients receive prompt and professional support.

Danny O’Hara
In Memoriam
Danny O’Hara, the late son of Joseph M. O’Hara, was a dedicated accountant and an important
member of the O’Hara & Company team. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from
St. Joseph’s University and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Accounting from Liberty
University. Before his passing, Danny was actively pursuing his CPA certification,
demonstrating his commitment to professional growth and excellence.
Throughout his time at the firm, Danny embraced many of the same responsibilities as his
father, providing invaluable support in client services, tax preparation, bookkeeping, and office
operations. His strong work ethic, attention to detail, and passion for accounting made a
lasting impression on both clients and colleagues.
Though Danny is no longer with us, his dedication, professionalism, and spirit continue to
inspire the team and remain an integral part of O’Hara & Company’s foundation and culture.
